The astral plane, also called the astral world, is the world of the celestial spheres, crossed by the soul in its astral body on the way to being born and after death, and generally said to be populated by angels, spirits or other
immaterial beings.

My work is highly spiritual. I believe God and our loved ones, who have passed, are always with us.  They can’t physically touch us, but, I  believe spirits speak to us each and every day through light and color.

Many believe, the astral plane is where the spirits of those who have passed reside.  Color and light shine on the people each spirit loves to remind those loved ones they are not alone as their spirits surround them passing through the astral plane onto earth.

Therefore, I asked each person, of which I painted each portrait for, what color reminded them of their loved one’s spirit. This series of paintings are an attempt to celebrate each spirit’s own “astral” color and to remind their loved ones, even though they have passed on, they are always with them.

Green reminds me of my mother.  She
really loved her life in Key West, so that is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of her.

Sandy

My mom loved royal blue and I would want people to remember her laugh.

Rosalie

Red was her color and all remember her for her Kindness.

Leda

Her favorite color was blue and she would
always say, Open doors, everybody is
welcome
.

I want to say the best color that describes my mom is pink just because that was her favorite color. But really if I had to pick one color it would be yellow. Her personality was so vibrant and spirit so strong, I just think of the sun when I think of her now. She was my everything kind of how the sun is the earths everything. (So to speak) She was incredibly beautiful in appearance and strong as an ox when it came to her work. I don’t know any one person who is able to wholeheartedly and happily accomplish countless obstacles on a regular basis with a grin from ear to ear and happy to see every one they encounter. She really is an amazing woman ….like the sunset, or the sunrise, you felt more blessed with every moment that you were able to spend in her presence.

Lori

My sister was blind and she was always sick.  However, she was so strong and we always had good times together.  I ended up giving her my kidney and, thus, she could live 4 more years.  Lori attended Boston University and earned her BA in sociology and psychology.  She really wanted to work with kids.  She always had a smile on her face.  I miss her every day.  She always liked light colors.

Astral Plane
Sung by Valerie June

Is there a light?
You have inside you
Can't touch
A looking glass
Can only show you
So much
Follow the signs
Slowly but steady
Don't rush
The day will come
When you are ready
Just trust

Dancing on the astral plane
In holy water cleansing rain
Floating through the stratosphere
Blind, but yet you see so clear
Is there a way?
For you to shine
Without fear
From other worlds

But you can't say
What keeps you here
Dancing on the astral plane
In holy water cleansing rain
Floating through the stratosphere

Blind, but yet you see so clear

Is there a way?
For you to give it
Your all
Dreaming a dream
Of sweeter things great or small
Dancing on the astral plane
In holy water cleansing rain
Floating through the stratosphere

Blind, but yet you see so clear
Dancing on the astral plane
In holy water cleansing rain
Floating through the stratosphere

Blind, but yet you see so clear

Is there a light?
You have inside you
Can touch
